Dr. Sanjiv K. Tiwari

Honorary Professor

Dr. Tiwari's research focuses on solar physics, with emphasis on the fine-scale structure and dynamics of sunspots, the mechanisms of coronal heating, and the origins of space weather. His work draws primarily on observations from space-based missions such as Hinode, IRIS, SDO, Solar Orbiter, and Hi-C, and is complemented, when appropriate, by Bifrost 3D MHD simulations and ground-based observations from facilities including DKIST, DST, and GONG.

Dr. Sanjiv Tiwari is a Senior Research Scientist at Lockheed Martin Solar and Astrophysics laboratory (LMSAL), and Bay Area Environmental Research Institute (BAERI) in Palo Alto, California, USA. After his PhD in 2010 from Physical Research Laboratory/Udaipur Solar Observatory (and MLSUniversity), Udaipur [for which he was bestowed with the Justice Oak best PhD thesis award of the year by Astronomical Society of India], he joined Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research, Lindau (now in Gottingen), Germany, as a postdoc in Jan 2011. In Dec 2013 he joined NASA/MSFC as an NPP Fellow where he worked until May 2017 (also held Research Scientist and Adjunct Faculty positions at UAHuntsville) before joining LMSAL/BAERI as a Senior Research Scientist in June 2017.
